Introduction 簡介
Established in 1973, Columbus Chinese Academy has a long history of providing traditional Mandarin language education and introduction of Taiwan’s diverse cultures to the local Taiwanese community. The school also actively works with the mainstream community to promote Mandarin learning to the general public.
Columbus Chinese Academy established the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning in September 2021. The purpose of the center is to publicize Taiwan’s multiculturalism, enhance the awareness of traditional characters, and establish connections among traditional cultures, highlighting the importance of traditional characters to cultural heritage. The center aims to extend the teaching scope of the school to encompass adult classes, in order to stimulate a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture in American communities and deepen the recognition of Taiwan as an indispensable member of the global village from a cultural perspective.
哥城中文學校成立於1973年，學校組織健全，長期以來致力推廣正體字華語文教學及傳揚臺灣多元文化，並積極於主流社區辦理各項華語文及文化推廣活動。
哥城中文學校於2021年9月設置臺灣華語文學習中心，設立宗旨在於宣揚臺灣多元文化，增進主流社會對傳統正體字的認知，並加強宣導使用正體字的重要性，以建立與傳統文化的連結，突顯正體字對悠久傳統文化的重要性。華語文中心教學理念為延伸原有中文學校教學範圍至成人，並深入主流社區促進對臺灣多元文化的瞭解，以文化的角度來深化臺灣為世界村不可或缺成員的認知。
Courses 課程特色
The center currently offers courses three days per week - Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Each course is taught by one of the center’s three Mandarin teachers. Weekly progress of the lesson content is the same among the three classes. Participants can select which class to attend according to their individual needs. In addition, to provide increased learning opportunities, we encourage students to participate in multiple course periods. Mondays and Wednesdays are arranged for online courses, and Saturdays for concurrent in-person and online courses.
The center uses “Common Chinese Sentence Patterns” and “Let’s Learn Mandarin” as main teaching materials. The goal is to build students' ability to conduct simple conversations, including self-introduction, daily expression needs, asking basic questions, and basic listening and speaking skills. Subsequently, the center will introduce more complicated character writing, recognition, and reading. The course will also integrate Taiwanese cultures, including history, festivals, and folk activities. The experience of Taiwanese daily life and cultural activities are also arranged.
目前中心由3位老師規劃3個不同上課時間給學生選擇，每堂課1小時，分別是週一、週三和週六，每堂課由1位老師授課，每週3堂課的課程內容及進度都相同，學員可依個人需求彈性選擇及調整進修時段。另中心為了提供更多學習機會，學員不但可依個人規劃選擇上課時段，並可選擇參與多個授課時段，以精進學習質量，目前週一及週三為網路課程，週六則為實體及網路課程並行。
中心以《常用中文句型》及《來！學華語》為主要教材，以建立學生進行簡單華語對話能力，包含自我介紹、日常表達需求、基本詢問問題、基礎聽說等，進而進入較為繁複的漢字書寫、認讀、正體字，課程也會介紹臺灣文化，包含歷史、傳統節慶、民俗活動等，中心亦規劃於適當時機安排體驗臺灣人的日常生活和藝文活動。
